Whether it’s in the office or the bedroom, communication is the key to success. Sound cheesy? Maybe, but if you think about any good relationship you’ve had with a colleague, a friend or a partner, chances are it all boiled down to the way you communicated with one another. Figure out how to communicate better with all of the different people in your life with a little help from these simple tips.
Learn to Listen
When someone is talking to you are you listening to what they are saying or are you just hearing them speak? If you’re listening it makes it easier to really engage in a conversation. You can ask questions, give advice, offer praise, or come to a resolution easily when you’re present and listening to whatever your conversation partner is saying!
Keep Dialogue Open
When you get asked about how you’re doing, if work went well, etc. it makes you feel like your partner cares about you! Learn how to communicate better by keeping that dialogue between the two of you open. After you’ve spoken about your day and challenges, make sure that you ask your significant other (or whoever you’re talking to) about theirs. Conversations should be reciprocal so that everybody involved gets something out of them.
Be Calm and Carry On
Somebody say something that you didn’t like? You’ve got to learn to chill. Instead of jumping to an argument right away, take in what the other person is actually saying to you. Then take a few moments to absorb that info, and in a calm way address any concerns you’ve got and try to look for a solution together. Communication 101 baby!
